Whether you are new to the world of poker or you are an experienced player, it is always nice to brush up on a few basic rules of the game. Did you know that this popular card game comes in countless variations? Or have you always thought of poker as a game that is played in one specific way? This is far from reality.

All around the world in casinos and countless places online, poker is played in different fun variations every single day. A great way to discover the world of poker is to try out some of the different variations and find your favourites. If you want to give yourself the best chance of winning the next round of poker you participate in, it is worth checking out this list.

1.    Texas Hold’Em

If there is one type of poker you have almost certainly heard of before, it is probably Texas Hold’Em. It is one of the variations of poker that is most commonly played all around the world, and it is the variation that is most commonly used in tournaments. Texas Hold’Em is a community card game where each player gets 2 cards and all the players share 5 common cards. It is all about creating the best possible combination with your cards and the community cards. Check out Pokersider for places where you can better your Texas Hold’Em skills.

2.    Seven Card Stud

Seven Card Stud can seem more complicated than Hold’Em at first glance. However, once you get the hang of the rules it’s not as difficult as it first seemed. In Seven Card Stud, there are no common cards between the players. In the beginning of the game, each player gets three personal cards – two open and two closed cards. After each player has placed their bets, the game continues with 3 open cards for each player and then the 7th closed card at the end of the game. It’s all about having the best hand of cards in the end.

3.    Lowball

In Lowball poker, the lowest hand is the winner. Therefore, this is the opposite of the Texas Hold’Em and Stud variants mentioned above. If you have tried the other two variants of poker, this should be a challenging and fun, new, way of thinking about the game. In Lowball poker, you begin the game by getting five individual cards. After this, the first round of bets begins. Now you can choose to swap your cards or stand if you think your chance of winning is high. Then begins another round of betting and lastly, the showdown if necessary.

Once you get the hang of it, poker is easy to play and always a good amount of fun – whether you are doing it at a casino or online. Trying out the different variations is a great way to gain knowledge of the card game and fully understand it.
